Photographic Skills

Which of the following photographic features/equipment have you used on a camera before?

Manual Focus features	X		I used these to ensure my images are focussed at a very high level. This is evident on images located on my blog.
Shutter Speed	X		I used shutter speed to experiment with different lights when taking photographs. I experimented with a torch. I also used shutter speed when taking images of my subject jumping, these allowed me to freeze the movement of my subject. These images are located on my blog.
Aperture control	X		I used aperture control to create different focus levels on the foreground and background of my images. I used a clock as a prop and placed it in front of different backgrounds. These images are located on my blog.
ISO Control/ Continuous shoot mode	X		I used continuous shoot mode when experimenting with bubbles. This allowed me to repeatedly take photographs whilst the bubbles floated away. I also used bubble gum to take photographs of the bubble growing. These images are located on my blog.
A tripod	X		I used a mini tripod when practising aperture control. This ensured that my images were in focus. These images are located on my blog.
External flash	X		I used external flash during my photo shoot. This included using a soft box to create specific styles of lighting.

Photoshop Skills

Text control	X		I used text control when resizing and positioning text on my front cover for my magazine in unit 3.
Filters	X		I used the filters when using the sharpen tool to make my images appear professional. These images are located on my blog.
Brushes	X		I used the brushes tool when creating a CD cover. I used an image of a tree to create the background of my cover. These images are located on my blog.
Layers	X		I used layers when creating my first attempt of a front cover. Layers are used whenever anything is placed onto the document such as images and texts.
Opacity control	X		I used opacity control when using brushes on my CD cover; this was used to edit how dark the title of my CD was.
Shape creation	X		I used shape creation on Photoshop when creating my front cover for my magazine in unit 3. I used the circle shape tool.
Brightness and contrast control	X		I used brightness and contrast when first learning to use Photoshop; I used it to edit the brightness of images if they came out too dark. These images are located on my blog.
Gradients	X		I used gradients when first learning to use Photoshop; I used it to create colour tones on images. These images are located on my blog.
Load selection features	X		I used this when placing images onto documents such as a background image on my magazine front cover.
Feathering	X		I used feathering when I learnt how to do vingetting; this makes the edge of the images appear less solid. These images are located on my blog.
Colour curves adjustment	X		I used this when first learning to use Photoshop when learning to cross-process images. This means editing the levels of particular colours in the image such as red. These images are located on my blog.
Resolution setting control	X		I use this when opening a document and set the resolution to 300 DPI.
Magnetic lasso, polygon lasso tool	X		I used this when I made an image of a woman appear to have a vampire appearance. I used this to create fangs by changing the shape of her teeth. These images are located on my blog.
Cropping tool	X		I used the cropping tool when I had an image that had unwanted imagery on it such as a large area around the subject.

Retouch tool	X		I used the retouch tool to edit away spots on a girls face. These images are located on my blog.

In Design Skills

Margin and column guide creation	X		I used the margin guide when creating my double page spread. This was to ensure that I didn’t go too close to the edge of the page. I used a column guide creation to allow spaces for my article on my DPS.
Inserting an image ID	X		I inserted images onto InDesgin when creating my double page spread. This involved drawing a box to place my image then placing it in from my documents.
Resizing images in ID	X		I resized images when creating double page spread. This involved making sure I didn’t stretch my images.
Text manipulation – resizing, rotation	X		I used text manipulation on my double page spread when creating small text boxes next to images on my double page spread. This involved resizing and rotating it.
Text manipulation – controlling kerning and leading	X		I used justification when inserting text on my double page spread.
Text flow creation	X		I used text flow when placing my article on to my double page spread. This involved drawing column boxes, placing my text and then allowing it to flow into the following columns.
Using transparent imagery in ID		X
Shape/line creation In design	X		I used shape line creation in InDesgin when creating my double page spread. I used the oval and rectangle tool to create shapes to place images and text into.
Exporting to PDF from In-design	X		I exported my double page spread and front cover from InDesgin to save it as a PDF to allow me to upload it onto Moodle. This involved selecting the correct selections such as “all pages” and “spreads”.
Text Wrap	X		I practised using text wrap when creating a double page spread about disability. I learnt how to do basic and advanced text wrapping. These images are located on my blog.
